After successfully hosting Olympic Games, china is preparing for winter sports. It is just a one step remaining from winter Olympics when 11 day Harbin winter Universiade opens in China.

24th Universiade was started with 1600 athlets from 44 participating countries and regions across the world. There are 81 events in 12 sports organized by International University Sports Federation. There was -27C degree Temperature when opening ceremony held for the million Dollar sports events.

600 Torch bearers traveled a distance of 2009 km to bring the flam at opening ceremony to light up the main Torch in Games. Zhang Dan, Luo Zhihuan and Zhang Hao was also became a part of Torch Bearers. All these three athletes are retired with proud to make first world champion in Winter Olympics.


The governor of northeastern Heilongjiang province, hope the success of this event will help to a bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. According to organizers US$430 million have been invested to improve sports facility.

China is feeling more confidence when report from the UN Environment Programme said that China had fulfilled many of its preOlympics commitments and improved the quality of air in Beijing. They made the city more green and used alternative energy sources.

In the Opening ceremony the flag of 24th World Winter Universiade is escorted into Harbin International Conference. There was a fireworks that formed “24” to represent the 24th year of this event. There was also fantastic Music and high tech light and Performance by various groups and 1,700 strudents of Chinese, Hong Kong, Taipei Colleges and Universities.

All events on the ice will be staged in Harbin while skiing events will be hosted in Yabuli and Maoershan. There are 51 sports and Accomodation facilities are built for this event.
China has also started to win gold medal by Zhou Yang, in the women's short track speed skating 1500 meters competition.
