Basketball star Charles Barkley, 45, who was arrested early Wednesday in Arizona on suspicion of drinking water and driving.Gilbert police Lieutenant-Governor Eric Shuhandler says an officer with a task force that targets drunken drivers as the former NBA star running a stop sign about 1: 30 am Wednesday morning in Scottsdale.
Barkley refused to submit to a breath test, but received a blood test. The results were not immediately available.After Barkley was processed, he was cited and released. He left in a cabin, Shuhandler said.
The police described Barkley as cooperative, and adds, it's common to release people after an arrest on suspicion of DUI.
Barkley was selected an NBA's 50 best players in 1996 and was inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.Barkley was a 11-time NBA All-Star and league MVP in 1993. He played 16 seasons for Philadelphia, Phoenix and rockets, and was in 1992 and 1996 Olympic team. In October, he announced that he would be a candidate for governor in his home in Alabama in 2014.
