Day Without A Gay 10 December 2008

On December 10, we support Gay.We Day Without a call for a nationwide strike and economic boycott by all members of our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and our allies straight on December 10, 2008, International Human Rights Day.

Day Without a Gay

"Gay, lesbian, and straight allies plan to rely on" gay "to volunteer in their local communities on LGBT December 10, 2008 to protest passage of the anti-gay constitutional amendments in Arizona, Florida and California. Wherever possible, Americans and gay allies plan to volunteer for the local gay and civil rights organizations across the country through a brand new national database.

Each day since election day, thousands have protested up and down streets of cities in California, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento. A national coalition of grassroots organizations LGBT activists have followed in their footsteps. Now gay people and their allies are working together to show America and the world is compassion, love, and the posititve spirit of the homosexual community through service.On December 10, 2008, the homosexual community will take a stance against historical hatred by donating their time to a variety of different causes, to increase public awareness of the need for LGBT equality in marriage and other civil rights.

In Chicago, the Gay Liberation Network has called for an 11-hour rally outside the County Building, 118 N. Clark St., in calling for the granting of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Network co-founder Andy Thayer said that he did not expect people to actually "call in the gay," but added that "many people find some way not to work that day, because we are sick are treated as second class citizens."
