Eid-ul-Azha or Eid-ul-Zuha is recognized as Bakr- Eid which is the festival of sacrifice. On this day, Muslims slaughter their domestic animals like goat (Bakr- Eid), sheep, cow, camel etc. It is considered as a symbol of sacrifice.

Eid Ul Zuha is three days festivals, which is celebrated from the 10th to the 12th of month of Dhul Hijjah. It is the last month of the Islamic year. The mental suffering of Prophet Ibrahim, Abraham of the Torah is commemorated by the festival, Eid-ul Zuha. A ‘Feast of Sacrifice’ follows the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’, which pays homage to the Prophet Abraham’s (PBUH) selfless act of sacrificing his son, Ishmael, to God.

All the Muslims go in the mosques for pray. A lamb, goat, or other animal are sacrificed by the Muslims in the memory of Prophet Abraham. This meat is parted into three parts; i.e. first, one third part is preserved for family, another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors, and the other third is given to the poor & needy. During these days, fasting is prohibited.

On the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha, the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh says that this festival is an occasion to memorize the spirit of supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim. This festival gives us the message to be humble, charitable and to work for the greater good of humankind. “May Id-ul-Zuha usher in happiness and prosperity for all our countrymen,” said that Prime Minister. The Vice President of India M.Hamid Ansari said that “I convey my good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Id-Ul-Zuha.
