"Birth of the Kannada State” is celebrated every year on 1st November. The birth of Kannada State is identified as Kannada Rajyotsava or the Karnataka Formation Day.
On 1st November, 1956 all the regions in South India was combined into one state called Karnataka. Later in 1973, Mysore was renamed to Karnataka. Karnataka is the princely state of Mysore. It was joined with Kannada speaking zones of Mumbai and Madras presidencies and Hyderabad, to create a unified Kannada-speaking sub-national entity.
Kannada is the main Dravidian languages of India which is mostly spoken in the southern state of Karnataka. It is the 27th most spoken language worldwide, with native speakers called Kannadigas. Kannada is one of the official languages of India as well as it is the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka. On Thursday, Gowda and Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru told reporters here that from this year the directive is going to be effect and all institutions must abide by it. Gowda said, "Kannada Rajyotsava has been declared a national festival. To celebrate it in a meaningful way and with more employee participation, the government by invoking Section 3 of the Karnataka Industrial Establishments (National Festivals) Act 1963 has declared a holiday on November 1”.
