
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual Function in which honors given to artists. The first event was held in 1978 by George Stevens, Jr. and he and his partner, the late Nick Vanoff. Since then, the Honors have been presented annually in Washington, D.C.
This year the honor was given to Actor Morgan Freeman, country music artist George Jones, choreographer Twyla Tharp, rockers Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and Barbra Streisand.
Two day event was hosted by Caroline Kennedy on Dec. 7 and CBS presents TV's classiest awards show at 8 tonight.
Denzel Washington and Clint Eastwood salute Mr. Freeman with words; Koko Taylor and B.B. King honor him in song.
Queen Latifah pays tribute to Ms. Streisand for revolutionizing the standard idea of beauty and breaking barriers for women. Glenn Close says Ms. Streisand is like the characters she plays: "headstrong and provocative."
Lily Tomlin called Ms. Tharp as "America's most influential choreographer." Dancers Marcelo Gomes and Luciana Paris perform Ms. Tharp's "Sinatra Suite."
Laura Bush praises Mr. Jones "There's no getting tired of a singer like him." A Jones medley features Brad Paisley on "Bartender's Blues," Randy Travis on "I'm a One Woman Man," Alan Jackson on "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Garth Brooks on three songs, and Shelby Lynne on "Amazing Grace."
