On 1st November, 1956, Kerala was formed by merging up three Independence long after 15th August, 1947, provinces named Malabar, Cochin and Travancore. Malayalam people from around the world celebrate November 1st as Kerala Piravi which has the meaning ‘birth of Kerala’ in Malayalam. 1st November, 2010 marks the 54th Anniversary of Kerala Piravi.
Kerala got its name from Keralian Thamboran who ruled in the early centuries. Parashurama, the sixth embodiment of Mahavishnu, created Kerala, according to the belief of Hindu epic. He flung his axe from Kanyakumari to the sea and the sea move away to create the land Keralam.
Kerala is mounted between Lakshadweep Sea and the Western Ghats and is covered with intense tropical forest, beautiful beaches, sea cliffs, rocky coasts. It is famed for its abundant tropical greenery, backwaters, and Ayurvedic treatments.
