Penelope Cruz gets Best Supporting Actress Oscar
Penelope Cruz won the 2009 Oscar for Best Spanish Actress in a Supporting Role.
Penelope Cruz was named best supporting Spanish actress Oscar on Sunday for his role as stormy artist Maria Elena in Woody Allen's romantic comedy "Vicky Cristina Barcelona." Penelope Cruz, 34 years, thanks both Allen and Spanish director Pedro Almodovar for his role in the shaping of his career and dedicated the gold statuette for players from their countries.
Penelope Speech was beautiful and bilingual. "Thanks Woody for trusting me with this beautiful nature," said a teary-eyed Cruz said as she accepted the award, referring to Woody Allen, the film director.Penelope was considered one of the favorites for this award - she played a crazy, bisexual, temperamental ex-wife in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona in a fun, natural chewing manner.
The win made Cruz the first Spanish woman to win an acting Oscar, a year after his compatriot and "Vicky" co-star Javier Bardem won best supporting actor for "No country for old men." His victory brought the audience to its feet, and Oscar was accepted by his father, Kim ledger, sister Kate and mother Sally Bell.
Cruz was nominated for best actor Oscar I in 2006 for "Volver". The win comes two years after the Madrid star best actress nomination in 2007 for Volver.
