Tornado TN Kills 2, Injures 41 in Murfreesboro

Kori Bryant, in her mid-20s, and 9-week-old Olivia Bryant were among the dead. The baby's body was found outside a home in a car seat alone Wilkerson Road. The father is in critical condition at a local hospital.
A tornado touched down in southwestern Kentucky, injuring two people and destroying homes. In Murfreesboro, 30 miles southeast of Nashville, at least three dozen homes were destroyed.
Dispatchers at the Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency said the area was ''heavily impacted'' after several eyewitness reports of a tornado on the ground around 12:30 p.m.
At least 41 people were injured in Rutherford County, Tenn., Four of them critically, in the wake of a storm system ravaged western Arkansas a day earlier.
Amy Jones, 32, was on the job at State Farm Insurance, when she heard that her house was razed to the ground. She was shocked when she came on stage and saw that the 1800-square-foot home with a garage was lifted entirely by the foundation, and fell on her neighbor at home.
Several possible tornadoes were reported in north Georgia as heavy rain, hail and winds downed trees and power lines. Flights were delayed for up to 90 minutes at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as dark gray clouds swirled in from the west.
One of the houses destroyed belonged to Robert Huggins, 65, who said that he, his son and two other men who worked in his garage when the tornado hit.
Huggins said we went to the garage door, and we was heard a louder voice. It was like a fright train which everyone says. He said his son told him to hit the ground when debris began to fly, so his son and another man fell on top of him. He said when we stood up there was nothing left. It took only three minutes and his 2500-square-foot home was gone.
Roofs were pulled off at least a dozen houses and some trees were blown down. A bulldozer was clearing the tree limbs and another debris from the streets. Friday afternoon, search teams fanned out across Murfreesboro, a city of about 100,500, looking for anyone trapped in homes. Several homes were emblazoned with a spray-painted and Thousands of utility customers lost power.
Gov. Phil Bredesen, Deputy Gov. John Morgan, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., and other officials are scheduled to tour the affected areas Saturday in Rutherford County by helicopter and on the ground. John Robinson said on Friday An initial survey of the damage suggests the tornado packed winds of at least 136 mph, weather service forecaster.
