Most Trailers and promo of the movie A Wednesday are mislead and the viewer has no end. They promise the moon, the audience is hooked, and very often fall short of expectations. In this case, Promotions is just the tip of the iceberg. This film has much to offer some vital glance emphasized in promotions.
Here is another point that must be clarified. A Wednesday has nothing to do with the train explosions, and is not equivalent to Bombay Meri Jaan. Of course, terrorism is the background image here, but a Wednesday talk on the status and power of the common man, Aam aadmi.
The year has witnessed some extremely talented storytellers are making their debut, like Rajkumar Gupta (Aamir), Kunal Deshmukh (Jannati) and Abbas Tyrewala (Jaan… AND YOUR Jaan NA). Now shanky Pandey joins managers, one is convinced will be one of those calling the shots in the future.
A Wednesday serves as magic, due to its grip plot line. The trip, from start to finish of a fateful Wednesday, keeps you on tenterhooks. And the culmination of this complex history is what this movie has to dizzy heights.
In short, a Wednesday, are among the best - and bravest - films to come out in 2008. Only one word to describe it: remarkable! A Wednesday tells the story of certain events that take place between 2 and 6 pm on a Wednesday in Mumbai. Events that are not on any record.
Flash-back: Anupam Kher (Prakash Rathod), the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai received a call requires the release of four militants rather than information on the bombs that man has planted in different parts of Mumbai. At first, Prakash suspect that this is a crank call, but their doubts are removed, when actually has a bomb at the police station right in front of his police headquarters. Prakash Rathod is not the type to leave easily. The team will have their best men together and taps all of its resources. The even hires a young attacker to help his team to track conversations and also the location of the anonymous caller.
The passage of time, but no concrete results are clear. Finally, Prakash Rathod decides to extradite militant groups to call anonymously. Then events take a strange turn. Expect the unexpected on a Wednesday. From the drafting point of view to the completion of written material, writer-director shanky Pandey has never been-there-seen-that route again.
Not having time to settle (the many stories in the beginning is not as interesting), but as you get the hang of things, offers A Wednesday after drawing overcome this difficult situation, after throwing challenge in the challenge 1, 30 hours (yes, it's a short film).
No sub-plots, no songs, no adverse Masala, not unnecessary tracks - A Wednesday, has a story to tell and tells the most effective way. On the enforcement front, the camera moves (Jimmy Jib), in Naseer portions specifically require his attention. Khan filmmaker Fuwa production is first class, even if captures a game (Jimmy Sheirgill) in a busy Bombay street.
The editor (Shree Narayan Singh) deserves generous roses to shape this thriller. During the finals in particular - Anupam is the driving force towards the location, while Naseer is its packaging material - the parallel scenes are compiled excellent. The background Result (Sanjay Chowdhury) is stirring. When his films are two of the most talented people to share screen space, only increases the curiosity.
Naseeruddin Shah has made several notable achievements over the decades, and the A Wednesday easily makes its way into his Top 5 works when you remember their body of work.
Its focus in the end - when he talks about the situation of the common man - is incredible. All Audi, a belief that breaking into a deafening applause in this sequence. Anupam Kher is so dynamic. See catches cold or see him face to face with Naseer in the end, if there is one player who could face a giant of an actor, is Kher. An outstanding performance!
All results in a Wednesday charged. Jimmy Sheirgill is the first level as the volatility COP. Story of a Common Man, this
Story of a Common Man, this should the tag line of the movie.
As said, this is the story of the common man's worries. The worry he has that whether he can return home safely.
A man calls up the Mumbai police and tells them that he has planted 5 different bombs in different parts of the city and wants four terrorists in return. Initially Police Commissioner (Anupam Kher) thinks it to be a crank call but upon finding a bomb in one of the police station, he started taking the call seriously. He gets the best people on the job to locate the person. He even hires a young hacker to trap the calls and locate the person.
Finally when he fails from all angles, he tries to get the four militants released and send them to the location the man asked to send them. But expect the unexpected here. Three of the four militants were killed there as the fourth one was kept hostage by one of the police (Jimmy Shergil) to extract the bombs planted.
Then the plot revealed. The man (Common Man) called up the police to say that he is a common man and wanted to take the law to his own hands since the judiciary was doing little to punish the terrorists.
No side stories, no songs, no dance sequences, no heroines (only woman is Deepal Shaw, playing a TV Journo). Naseeruddin Shah is the person to watch for in the movie when in the climax he is showing is angst towards the system. He is incredible when he tells the story of situation of the common man.
A Wednesday is his one of the top five works till date. Anupam Kher as the Police Commissioner is outstanding. Jimmy Shergil and Aamir Bashir are great. Deepal Shaw is ok as a TV Journo. Gaurav Kapur as a movie hero is funny. Neeraj Pandey has not cared to go beyond and experimenting a new kind of movie.

The movie was indeed told
The movie was indeed told well. However as an avid movie viewer over 3 decades I feel it could have been been cropped a bit more.Like Jimmy's character was not in the present tense as was that of Aamir's. also jimmy looked too much of eye candy given his job profile. The CM's character shud have been more defined. In many places the music did the tempo building, but the tempo of the camera movement and acting did not match it.
Some things which removed authencity were - having only one hacker to track the call,The room from where Rathod spoke was an open room with everyone listening to his moves, The artist fello took too long to bring up the sketch, Finger prints were not taken from the place of bomb found, The Amir and Jimy never once showed tension in doing there job.
A few more incidences shud have been used to show how Police operations go wrong like Politician interruption, lack of Polcie force, faulty intelligence gathering etc.
but of course overall much better than watching a movie about Dil,Bil or Bap beta zagda.

this is certainly a must watch for all movie viewers who like to watch a thought-provoking movie. It recharges your senses and really gets you thinking! One of the best after a long time with superb star cast - Nasir and Anupam. The best actors and most under-rated. I just loved the concept, the theme and the expression. It was fantastic and unfortunately the timing turns out to be equally dramatic.
I wish we get people to think of it seriously and see the end to terrorism. The biggest threat to our country's growth and prosperity!!!
