The year is 2307 AD. Fossil fuels on earth are exhausted, disable the mankind to another source of energy: solar energy. During this time, 3 lifts orbital electricity from solar systems are built, each under the supervision of the Union of solar energy and free nations (formerly the United States of America), Human League reform (Russia, China and India) and the modern European Union. However, not all countries will be able to take advantage of this system, leading to widespread resentment and war. Arising from the conflict, a mysterious military organization known as Celestial Being appears devoted to an end to all armed conflicts by means of mobile suits called Gundam.
