Canada's Olympic football team opening on Argentina
The Canadian women's soccer team won its first Wednesday at the Beijing Games 2008, defeating Argentina 2-1 in Group E action at the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium.
Defender Candace Chapman, Ajax, Ont., And in Canada Giving his first goal in the 27th minute, while Oakville, Ont., Native Kara Lang added the winner with a great header on a free kick to the 72nd minute.

"The team was very pumped and ready to play, but it was with mixed emotions," Canada head coach Even Pellerud said the Canadian Soccer Association's official website. "They were tough: the heat was 35 degrees and there was high humidity," said Pellerud. "We should have determined the final result much earlier, but our arrival was not great."
The victory was also at a price of the Canadian team. Forward Melissa Tancredi, who has scored four goals in April of the Olympic qualification tournament, left the field on a stretcher in the 19th minute after she seems to be suffering a leg injury in a collision with Argentine defender Gabriela Chavez.
She returned to the field less than three minutes later, but was finally forced to leave the 42nd minute.
Football is the only sport to play before the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday. The top two teams in each of three groups advance to the Olympic quarter-finals, with the next best two teams pressing thesis.
Sinclair lack soon as possible
Canada slowly built a first pressure which led to a first scoring chance.
Tancredi closely missed a goal on a corner by sending a header over the bar in the 16th minute.
Christine Sinclair, who led Canada with 93 goals in international competition, unleashed a shot on target in the 26th minute, but he was leaning on the limits of goalkeeper Vanina Correa.
Chapman put Canada on board a minute later, she joined as Argentina play a zone and click on a powerful, low volley from over 30 yards which sailed through a crowd and jumped just inside the left post.
"When we started, we had a lot of nerves," said Chapman. "The goal was big for us. It is always frustrating when your pressure on the ball and it does not go in the net."

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (AP)-Five-time Olympian Dara Torres, four time Olympian Amanda Beard and Natalie Coughlin, who won five medals four years ago in Athens, were selected as captains of the USA Olympic women's swimming team.
Three-time Olympian Erik Vendt and Jason Lezak, and twice at the Olympics Brendan Hansen, were appointed captains of the men's team in Beijing.
The captains announced Wednesday were decided in a team vote in the U.S. training camp in California last week.
The American team is currently training in Singapore before leaving for Beijing Monday.
