Great fighter Justin Eilers was fatally shot Thursday night in Idaho.
Former UFC heavyweight title challenger Justin Eilers was reportedly shot and killed after a domestic disturbance during a holiday celebration with family and friends in Nampa, Idaho on Thursday night. Eilers was 30 years old.
According to reports, Eilers had gathered at the house with relatives and friends to celebrate Christmas but an argument reportedly arose between Eilers and his ex-girlfriend, who was also present at the residence. The dispute then escalated, culminating with James Robert Malec, believed to be the boyfriend of Eilers’ mother, shooting Eilers once in the chest with several family members witnessing the attack.
Eilers was a credible professional MMA fighter who competed for a title at the highest level of the sport. While he may not carry the Couture or Liddell moniker, he was a part of the community and will be sorely missed.
James Robert Malec, 48, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. Canyon County sheriff's office deputy Gary Deulen said the investigation is ongoing, but described the shooting as a domestic disturbance.
During a six-year professional career, Eilers compiled an impressive 19-7-1 record and will be missed by everyone in the mixed martial arts community. Everyone here at MMA on Tap would like to send their best wishes to Eilers’ friends and family during this obviously difficult time.
