Oscar De La Hoya Announced his Retirement at age of 36.
Oscar De La Hoya, 36, retired from his career in the Tuesday, ending a run in which he won world titles in six divisions and became one of boxing's most popular fighters. At an outdoor plaza in Los Angeles across the street from Staples Center he announced his decision before hundred of fans. He known as the Golden Boy and he retired after four months he was thoroughly beaten by Manny Pacquiao which his fourth loss in his last seven fights.
He has not defeated a formidable since Fernado Vergas in 2002. De La Hoya won his last title in May 2006, beating Ricardo Mayorga in six rounds for the W.B.C. super- welterweight title. With a record of 39-6 and 30 knockouts he finished it.
After reflecting a lot and speaking with his family and friends he came to the conclusion that it is over. Oscar's fight against Floyd Mayweather won by split decision, grossed 120 million dollars to become the richest fight in boxing history. He kept his emotions to himself but his voice broke when he thanked to his father Joel, who sat on stage with De La Hoya's wife, Millie.
